God loves you!  That one statement is the driving force behind all that we desire to do and be at Surrey Hills Baptist Church.  At SHBC, you are encouraged and challenged to know God’s love and share God’s love with others.  God loves us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to die so that we can live forever with Him.

Joshua has been serving in youth ministry for over 10 years and loves seeing students discover who they are in Christ. He and his wife, Haleigh, have two amazing kids and are excited to welcome a third to the family.

Joshua’s passion is helping students build a real, everyday relationship with Jesus, not just on Wednesdays or Sundays, but in every part of their lives. He wants to equip them with a strong biblical foundation so they’re prepared to face life’s challenges, stand firm in their faith, and make an impact in their schools by sharing the love of Christ with others.

He believes youth ministry should be a place where students can ask honest questions, grow in community, encourage one another, and have a lot of fun. More than anything, Joshua hopes every student knows they are loved, valued, and called by God to make a difference right where He has placed them.

“And whatever you do, in work or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”  Colossians 3:17

Kristin has been a faithful member of Surrey Hills Baptist Church since 2011 and began serving on staff in the church office in 2021. She and her husband, James, have three children who are a great blessing in their lives.

In addition to her administrative responsibilities, Kristin is actively involved in the Children’s Ministry, where she is passionate about supporting the spiritual growth of young families.

First, I am a wife and mother of three children, six grandchildren, and all of the benefit people that go with growing a family. I love to fellowship. I love to cook. I love to see people smile. I love God. I know what I can do. After almost 20 years in the medical field, I always took advantage of any opportunity to cook for people and watch people “play.” Before retiring from the medical field, I had the opportunity to start catering to hospitals and doctors’ offices. Eventually, my real job got in the way of catering, so… I spent 25 years in the food and beverage industry, including catering, and owning a restaurant. It was mostly fun, but I had great help who got me through the tough times. I learned from everyone and loved watching what food did to and for people; it often made at least some of them smile. So, when I was looking for a new church about four or five years ago, I was offered the opportunity to cook regularly at this church. I had just retired, so I was anxious to keep my fingers busy. I said I would think about it and thought for about three minutes before saying yes. Wonderful volunteers helped me through the tough times, and I continue to learn from everyone. I want to thank everyone in this church for allowing me to continue this great experience. I still love fellowship, I still love to cook, and I still love to see people smile. I love my husband, Ray, and most of all, I love God.

Darrell joined our staff in 2007. His character and demeanor are shining examples of Christ in his life.

Darrell’s heart is to honor God through lifting voices in worship. He desires to use the choir and praise team to prepare hearts to receive God’s spoken word. Darrell’s passion is celebrating God through hymns and praise choruses and promoting unity in corporate worship with the fellowship of believers.

He and his wife Rhonda have three children.

Rhonda Schantz has been a member of Surrey Hills Baptist Church since 2007 and stepped into the role of Nursery/Preschool Coordinator in 2023. Her experience as a former 4th grade teacher, mother to 3 wonderful children, and Gigi to 4 precious grandchildren fuels her passion to provide a safe, loving environment for our babies and preschoolers to grow in their knowledge and love for God and His word. She has many years of experience teaching preschool Sunday School, and firmly believes it is never too early to teach children how much God loves them, about His character, His plan for them, and the truth of His word whether it is through songs, stories, play, and/or interactions with our wonderful staff of volunteers. It is our desire at Surrey Hills Baptist Church to not only love, protect, and teach the children, but also to support and encourage the family as a whole.

Kelly first stepped in to serve as the interim children’s ministry director in October 2025 and officially accepted the permanent position in May 2026. She has an extensive background in teaching and leading children at various levels, both professionally in the public school system and volunteering within the Church over the past 25 years. Kelly is a devoted follower of Christ who believes in the inerrant Word of God and has a passion for teaching children the truth of God’s Word and how to apply it to their daily lives. She enjoys building bonds with the kids here at SHBC and making sure they know that they are loved. Kelly and her husband, Ezra, have been blessed with 4 children, all of whom they have had the privilege of homeschooling.
